County Administrator

Mission Statement

Directs and oversees the implementation of the Board of County Commissioners’ (BOCC) policies to all county departments/divisions, as prescribed by the BOCC and Administrative Codes. Directs and oversees day-to-day operations of county government.

Jason M. Bennett, CPA

Jason M. Bennett, CPA, currently serves as the Allegany County Administrator, following his initial appointment as Interim County Administrator by the Board of County Commissioners — Commissioners Jacob C. Shade, Creade V. Brodie, Jr., and David J. Caporale — on June 1, 2020. He transitioned into the role permanently in 2021.

A proud Western Maryland native, Bennett graduated from Allegany High School in Cumberland before earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Frostburg State University. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Bennett began his career in public accounting, gaining experience with firms in both Washington, D.C. and the Cumberland area. His public service career began in November 2003, when he joined Allegany County Government’s Department of Finance as an Accountant. He was promoted to Chief Accountant in 2005 and later became Director of Finance in June 2011.

In his role as County Administrator, Bennett leads the County’s Management Team while continuing to support key financial operations due to staffing and budget constraints. He is a graduate of Leadership Allegany! Class of 2007 and remains actively involved in professional and statewide organizations. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust and Chair of the Rocky Gap Local Development Council. He is also a past President of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, Western Maryland Chapter, and maintains membership in the Maryland Government Finance Officers Association (MDGFOA), the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Bennett is deeply committed to his community. He serves on the Board of the Holding Hands for Haley Foundation, Inc., and volunteers as a youth soccer coach with JCP.
