Allegany County
Solid Waste Management Plan Revision
Allegany Biochar, LLC has submitted a Refuse Disposal Permit Application to the Maryland Department of the Environment for accepting, processing, and transfer of wood waste and sewage sludge. The proposed site location of the facility is PPG Road, Cumberland, MD 21502. The facility will create a soil carbon additive by mixing wood char and sterilized biosolids. It is expected to be operational within 9-12 months. Pursuant to Section 9-503 of the Environmental Article and COMAR 26.03.03.05C, Allegany County is required to revise the 2021-2031 Solid Waste Management Plan to include Allegany Biochar, LLC as a solid waste collection facility in order for permitting to be approved. This hearing will also satisfy the requirements of COMAR 26.11.02.11E.
Allegany County along with Allegany Biochar, LLC will conduct a Public Hearing, to review and receive comments on the revision to the Allegany County Solid Waste Management Plan 2021-2031. The hearing will take place Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 5:00 PM, in room 100 of the County Office Complex, 701 Kelley Road, Cumberland, Maryland.
