Accessibility for Visitors
The Allegany County Office Complex is open to all members of the public. If you have an accommodation request related to a disability, please call us at (301) 777-2526.
Building Accessibility
The Allegany County Office Complex building is accessible to visitors with limited mobility. Patrons are welcome to use mobility devices such as wheelchairs and motorized scooters when visiting. The public meeting room is on the ground floor of our building and is accessible via elevator.
Wheelchair Use
Guests are invited to use their personal manual or motorized wheelchair inside the Office Complex. We also have a limited number of manual wheelchairs for visitors to borrow during their visit to our building. These wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved. Ask the receptionist about availability.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are available for our guests with disabilities at the front of our building. There is a ramp leading into the front doors in order to accommodate wheel chairs or other rolled devices.
Service Animals
The County Office Complex welcomes service animals as defined in Title II of the ADA that are trained to assist guests with disabilities. Per the ADA, "A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to work or perform task(s) for a person with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability.”
Service animals must always remain under the control of the owner or handler while in the County Office Complex. The service animal must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered while in public places unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the person’s disability prevents use of these devices. In that case, the person must use voice, signal, or other effective means to maintain control of the animal. If a service animal is out of control or poses a direct threat to the health or safety of staff, guests, or property, we may require the service animal be removed from the premises.
