The Allegany County Sheriff's Office will be hosting its 3rd Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) to familiarize citizens with the operations of the sheriff's office and witness the activities deputies encounter.
The CPA is intended to open lines of communication between the community and the law enforcement by allowing citizens a firsthand look behind the scenes at the Sheriff's Office to meet our Deputies, see how operations are handled, and for citizens take away a better understanding of the variety of roles the Sheriff’s Office plays within the community.
Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm beginning on March 5th through May 7th. A public graduation ceremony will take place on May 7th.

The mulch yard will be open for its final weekend of the season this Saturday and Sunday, open dawn to dusk!
Reminder - the mulch yard is for residential use only. ♻️ We ask all users to continue using the site responsibly. While this service is free for Allegany County residents, it does come at a cost to the County. Excessive dumping — often by contractors — threatens the future of the program.

The Allegany County Commissioners are committed to allowing as many local youth as possible to utilize these fields and as such, would request that each proposal address a plan to allow other youth baseball groups access to these fields. Proposals should include the tentative number of players, coaches and number of area teams that are committed to utilizing fields, including supporting documentation. Each proposal should describe the organization’s plan to maintain the fields, including assets on hand, fundraising plans, and method of maintenance for the duration of the agreement. Proposals should also include details about intended uses and scheduling for the fields, which also includes plans to allow local high schools and middle schools to be able to utilize the fields as needed for their baseball schedules. The proposal should provide the formal organization of your entity and information necessary to demonstrate that your organization is in good standing and able to obtain liability insurance. Finally, proposals should identify a point of contact and contact information for your organization.
To submit your proposal, please submit a letter of request the Allegany County Commissioners at 701 Kelly Road Suite 205 Cumberland MD 21502 or email your complete packet to Sam Logsdon, County Clerk, at countyclerk@alleganygov.org. In order to be considered, your proposal must be received by 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026. All requests will be reviewed immediately and the intention is to make a recommendation for the commissioners thereafter.

Articles 2-303 and 2-303.1, the Allegany County Board of Elections will be discussing the 2026 Gubernatorial Election Plan at its meetings scheduled on the following dates: July 1, 2025, August 5, 2025, September 2, 2025, and October 7, 2025 at 9:00am. Topics to be discussed include Ballot Drop Box locations, Early Voting Center location, and Election Day Polling Place locations.
