Allegany County Debuts “Donut and Go,” New Food Trail That Celebrates Coffee and Donuts
January 11, 2021 - CUMBERLAND, MD - Whether you’re in need of a sugar and caffeine rush before biking one of the Mountain Side of Maryland’s numerous trails or you’re just a coffee and/or donut lover, Allegany County’s newest food trail, “Donut and Go,” promises to be a hole lot of fun.
With 10 stops laid out across 12.5 miles, there are plenty of pick-me-ups along the way. Each stop is a local favorite and offers a latte of options for both donut and coffee connoisseurs, including a peanut butter-glazed donut from Caporale’s Bakery, a cheesecake-stuffed donut from JZ’s Cruz Thru, or a nontraditional Basecamp Espresso Martini from Corner Tavern. Other stops on the trail (in the order they appear on the map) include Basecamp Coffee Company, Café Mark, M&M Bake Shop, Holy Grounds Coffee and Bagel Shop (where they make a mean Oreo cream cheese), Mountain City Coffeehouse and Creamery, Clatter Coffee, and Lorenzo’s Bakery.
The trail is an excellent activity for families and an easy way to make a new weekend-morning tradition, with the kids getting donuts and the parents treating themselves to much-deserved coffee at a new stop each week. And if you’re just a foodie looking to support local shops and find your new favorite morning ritual, this is the way to do it. Whether you visit all 10 stops in one go (though that may be a tad too much sugar and caffeine consumption for the average joe), or if you prefer to travel the trail bit by bit – or is it bean by bean? – you’ll get to experience all the local flavors that landed these shops on the trail map in the first place.
“We know that culinary experiences not only inspire travel but also are one of the very reasons why a destination is memorable,” said Ashli Workman, Director of Tourism for Allegany County, Maryland. “Allegany County is home to so many trail stories, over 200 miles of developed biking and hiking trails, one of the nation’s most popular water trails – the Potomac River, the Green Ridge Self-Guided Overlook Trail, the historic George Washington Trail, and our popular foodie trails, which is why this new Donut and Go Trail is fitting.”
Donut and Go is the third culinary trail to launch in Allegany County, Maryland. While you’re in the area – and if you don’t mind a little more sugar – one of the stops on the Ice Cream Trail could be the perfect reward after spending the morning enjoying the great outdoors on the Mountain Side of Maryland. If you prefer a less caffeinated, more “adult-beverage” sort of reward, the Tap and Pour Tour features six wineries, breweries and distilleries.
