GIS Office Duties and Responsibilities

To provide Allegany County Government Officials, employees, and stakeholders with spatial data that can be easily accessed in order to increase the efficiency of daily government operations, more effectively manage assets, and aid in decision-making, which will ultimately result in enhanced public services.

The role of the GIS Office is continually expanding, as the benefits inherent in spatial data are recognized. The addition of a spatial component makes datasets more relevant and useful. The GIS Office collaborates with many of the County departments, including Planning, Public Works, Economic Development, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Land Development, and the Board of Education. In addition, the GIS Office serves citizens and businesses by providing access to online mapping and digital data.
