Registering to Vote

Can I Register To Vote?

All residents of Allegany County may register to vote, if they meet the following requirements:

• County Resident;

• United States Citizen;

• At Least 18 years old by the next general election;

• Not be under guardianship for mental disability;

• Not have been convicted of buying or selling votes;

• Not have been convicted of a felony, or if you have, you have completed serving a court ordered sentence of imprisonment, including any term of parole or probation for the conviction.

When Can I Register To Vote?

Voter Registration Applications are accepted year round.  However, no voter registration application can be processed:  The 21st day before and until the 11th day after an election. (Note: Law Change 1/99)

Voter Registration Applications can be obtained at the following locations:

• Allegany County Election Office - Cumberland

• Your Local Post Office

• Allegany County Public Library Branches

• The Motor Vehicle Administration - LaVale

• County Municipality Offices

• All Public Assistance Offices

• All Offices Providing State-Funding Programs
