Jacob C. “Jake” Shade, a native of Cumberland, was re-elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2018 for a second four-year term. He was first elected in 2014. He is the President of the Board of County Commissioners.
Commissioner Shade earned a Master of Professional Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland in 2015. He also earned his undergraduate degree, a B.A. in Government and Politics, from the University of Maryland in 2013. Commissioner Shade is a graduate of the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance, a professional development program associated with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.
Commissioner Shade also works in the insurance industry in Cumberland with a life and health license as well as Series 6, 63, and AHIP Medicare Certifications. Commissioner Shade formerly worked in the Maryland General Assembly as a Legislative Director.
During this term of office Commissioner Shade and his fellow County Commissioners serve on the Allegany County Board of Health and are members of the Cumberland Allegany County Industrial Foundation, Inc. (CACIF). Commissioner Shade also serves on the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Legislative Committee, The Greater Cumberland Committee, and The Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Inc.
Commissioner Shade is a member of Queen City AF & AM Masonic Lodge #131 and The International Churchill Society. He is a former member of the Allegany County Republican Central Committee. Commissioner Shade resides in Cumberland.
