Fall in Love with the Arts in Allegany County, Maryland

New campaign celebrates art-focused events happening in the county.

September 4, 2018 - CUMBERLAND, MD – While the crisp mountain air and vistas of vibrant foliage would be reasons enough for a fall mountain getaway, consider another brilliant reason to experience autumn in Allegany County, the Mountain Side of Maryland. Fall in love with the arts when you discover Allegany County’s upcoming line-up, which is filled with events and festivals that celebrate the performing, visual, and literary arts.

“Fall in Love with the Arts,” is a new campaign developed by Allegany County Tourism to promote fall travel within our region by highlighting the many art-focused events that take place September through November. The campaign will kick off with the Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University’s ‘An Evening with LeAnn Rimes,’ September 22, 2018, and will end with Frostburg State University’s Center for Literary Arts’ annual One Act Play Festival, November 10, 2018.

Events include:

  • An Evening with LeAnn Rimes – September 22, 2018  - The Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University welcomes two-time Grammy Award winner, LeAnn Rimes, for an intimate, acoustic concert experience. For CES’ full list of 2018-2019 performances, visit their website.
  • Mountain Maryland Plein Air – September 24-29, 2018  Now in its 10th year, the Allegany Arts Council’s six-day event celebrates the scenic landscape of the Mountain Side of Maryland, featuring world-renowned painters and special events.
  • Queen City Film Festival – October 4-7, 2018 - Produced by Allegany Allied Arts, Western Maryland’s premiere film festival offers four days of programmed screenings, educational panels, and the opportunity to meet filmmakers from around the world.
  • Indie Lit Festival – October 5-6, 2018 - This event is sure to inspire as it brings together editors and publishers with writers and educators through panel discussions and roundtable sessions. Produced by the Center for Literary Arts at Frostburg State University.
  • 2018 Mountain Maryland Artist Studio Tours – October 20-21, 2018Interested in how artists work? See them in their natural environments; learn about their processes, and view some beautiful and inspiring areas of the region. Presented by the Allegany Arts Council.
  • Highlands American Music Series presents Becky Buller Band – November 3, 2018 - H.A.M.S. is excited to welcome Becky Buller, who made bluegrass music history by becoming the first person ever to win in both instrumental and vocal categories at the International Bluegrass Music Association.
  • One Act Play Festival – November 10, 2018 - The Center of Literary Art’s 9th annual festival features staged productions of the winning plays of our international One-Act Playwriting competition; a talkback with writers, actors, and directors; and a reception.
