How To Catch The Bus
1. Find a location of convenience on the bus route to be picked up by looking through a ride guide, this website or ACT posters located in the area.
2. Stand on the same side of the road on which the bus travels, either at a bus stop sign or at any intersection.
3. Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes early so as not to miss the bus.
4. Raise your hand as the bus approaches to signal to the driver that you want to catch the bus.
5. Have your fare ready and pay as you board the bus.
Transfers

Most transfers take Place at Rose's, Country Club Mall, and the Palace Theater in Frostburg.
There are NO transfer fees. Ask the bus driver for a transfer slip, because a transfer slip is required to board the next bus.
Transfer slips are only provided should you need to change buses at a transfer point during a one-way trip. Bus fare is charged for each one-way trip.

Benefits of Public Transportation
  Ensures Safety
The National Safety Council estimates that riding the bus is over 170 times safer than automobile travel.
Transit drivers are trained to anticipate and avoid problems
Most transit vehicles are larger, newer and more substantial than cars.
Saves Money
For every $10 million invested in public transportation, more than $15 million is saved in transportation costs to both highway and public transportation users
Households that use public transportation and live with one less car can save on average $9,000 every year
Eases Traffic Congestion
Public transportation helps to alleviate our nation's crowded network of roads by providing transportation choices.
Improves Air Quality
Public transportation helps promote cleaner air by reducing automobile use, which can exacerbate smog and public health problems. Each year, public transportation use avoids the emissions of more than 126 million pounds of hydrocarbons, a primary cause of smog, and 156 million pounds of nitrogen oxides, which can cause respiratory disease.
Reduces Energy Consumption
In 2008, Americans took 10.7 billion trips on public transportation.

35 million times each weekday, people board public transportation.

From 1995 through 2008, public transportation ridership increased by 38%—a growth rate higher than the 14% increase in U.S. population and higher than the 21% growth in the use of the nation’s highways over the same period.

Public transportation is a $48.4 billion industry that employs more than 380,000 people.

More than 7,700 organizations provide public transportation in the United States.

Many U.S. transit systems are continuing to invest in compressed natural gas (CNG), low sulfur burning buses or diesel-electric hybrid buses.
Stimulates Economic Development
A transit coalition report, Dollars & Sense: The Economic Case for Public Transportation in America found that every dollar taxpayers invest in public transportation generates generates approximately $4 in economic returns.
Fosters More Livable Communities
Public transportation provides personal mobility and freedom for people from every walk of life.
Access to public transportation gives people transportation options to get to work, go to school, visit friends, or go to a doctor’s office. Studies have shown that the ability to travel in an area conveniently, without a car is an important component of a community's livability.
Public transportation provides opportunity, access, choice and freedom, all of which contribute to an improved quality of life.
