You Need to Know


Each number has to be deposited into a different bin. No. 1 and No. 2 plastic logos will be in a triangle close to or on the bottom of the plastic container.

Plastic bottles and jugs must be separated and recycled by a No. 1 or No. 2 found inside a triangle on the bottom of the container. Other numbers are not accepted for Allegany County's recycling program.

No. 1 and No. 2 clean plastic containers (bottles and jugs) used for non-toxic substances.

Examples of Accepted Plastic


  • Consumable Plastics: Milk, Juice, Soda, Water Bottles, Condiment Bottles, Cooking Oil, Jugs
  • Personal Care Plastics: Shampoo, Conditioner, Mouthwash, Body Wash, Lotion
  • Household Plastics: Bleach, Clothes Detergent, Dish Detergent, Fabric Softener, Household Cleaners

Not Accepted


  • All No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 plastic containers.
  • All plastic containers used for poisonous/toxic substances
  • Caps or spraying devices
  • Plastic bags
